Total has been present in the UK for more than 50 years and is one of the country’s leading oil and gas operators. Total’s production in the UK comes from several operated fields located offshore in three major zones the Alwyn/Dunbar area in the Northern North Sea, the Elgin/Franklin area in the Central Graben region and the new Laggan-Tormore hub in the West of Shetland area. The TOIP project requirement was to replace the existing telephony estate across the Total onshore and offshore locations and to review the wider telephony strategy to ensure it embraced current and future collaborative capabilities, reduced complexity, consolidated user devices and provided choice to the end user in how they wanted to communicate. FarrPoint were engaged to assist with the high level design and procurement for the replacement telephony solution.
The key tasks that FarrPoint were responsible for included:
- Information capture on the existing telephony service including system components (PBX, Handsets etc.), the system configuration and functionality in use within the business;
- Business requirements capture to understand the current and future demands of the telephony solution;
- Technical analysis of requirements including the Business and ICT Strategy to help develop the required features, functionality and the design of the future telephony solution;
- Production of the Statement of Work, High Level Design and technical requirements for the Instruction to Tender document including all required elements of hardware, software and licencing.
FarrPoint’s support allowed Total to confidently go out to market for supplier solutions through a well documented and structured process. This resulted in the appointment of a supplier to provide advanced telephony infrastructure and services that matched the business requirements of the organisation in this challenging operational environment.
